Just visit PhotoVisi.com and upload your favorite photographs to your desktop. Select a template, then upload the photographs and PhotoVisi does the rest of the work for you.
After creating your collage, those of you who are familiar with Photoshop can take that collage and further add some enticing and visually engaging text. Adding a caption will tie the collage together really nicely!

highlight your photographs in a visually engaging collage

Thanks for the great resource! Timely too, as I’ll need to make a collage next month. Looks like it’ll save a lot of time vs. Photoshop.
Thank you so much for the tip! Just last week I was trying to make a photo collage and the only resource I could think of using was MS Paint. It was tiresome and difficult, but PhotoVisi looks easy. Thanks for introducing to a great product!
This is a great tip! I haven’t used photo collages on my blog before but this looks pretty easy!
I’m also a Photoshop novice, so I use the free service Picnik.com for collages. It’s quick, easy, and you can add text, etc.
Great site! Looking forward to playing around with this and start using collages on my blog.
What a great tip! My hubby has already tried this out and posted my family photos on Facebook! It took seconds!
Wow!! Thanks for sharing such a GREAT resource!! I never have the time to mess around and figure out photoshop. This will be amazing.
This is great! I can’t wait to try it. I’ve seen beautiful collages on sites like yours before and always wondered how it was done. Thanks for sharing the secret.
This is a very nice tip and should, definitely, prove very useful to people that aren’t savvy in Photoshop (or similar) or are just too busy for that kind of thing.
But still, one has to argue that with Photoshop or any medium to advanced graphics software, you can achieve some very impressive results. And if you’re going to print your collage, I think people should be aware that software such as InDesign or Illustrator and Photoshop too are much more suited for the job than apps like Photovisi.
Great resource! I am loving this site!
This is wonderful! Thank you so much!
I hope you guys do some photoshop/photoshop elements/lightroom tutorials at a later date.
Or you know, Paint Shop Pro for those that don’t use Adobe products
.
Rene- YES!! we have plenty of post processing posts, photoshop tutorials and actions in the works.
Can’t wait to see those posts! Great job btw!
Yay! I can’t wait to see therm!
I do Photoshop and am a member of NAPP. One of the things I learned at the last NAPP seminar was a certain type of collage. Mary L.
Cool – thank you!
Love this post! Thanks for the info!
I’ve been looking for something like this to no avail! Thanks for the info Diane!
I make photo collages with a super easy program called Comic Life. http://comiclife.com/ It’s actually for making comics, but it makes putting together photo collages very fun and easy. You just drag and drop photos and you can add text right in the picture. They have both a Mac and Windows version. I love it. You don’t have to know anything technical at all. Just another option for anyone interested. Great post, Diane!
Elaine- thanks for sharing this great site. go check it out everyone!
I use this too… (It came with my MacBook).. and like Elaine said, its super easy as well. But, Ilm also loving the recommended photovisi… I tried it out and the pictures look great!
While I prefer to work in Photoshop most of the time, I’m having great fun playing with Comic Life. It offers a lot of easy to use features which should appeal to photographers of all levels.
Great tip, Elaine!
I’ve actually been using Picasa for everything, but collages are very time consuming, so thanks for this info!
Shirley
This is perfect. I use aperture so am unable to do collage’s or diptych’s. On the photovisi site there is not option for diptych. Does anyone know of a good free site where I could do diptych’s?
Have you tried Picnik.com?
Jote- looks like picnik offers some great stuff from other reader responses. Great suggestion!
Thanks! I’m trying it out right now.
I created a diptych using picnik and it worked very nicely but the quality of my photos went down even on it’s highest setting. I am wondering if there is a better quality option out there? I am not opposed to purchasing software but aperture works wonderfully for everything else so I don’t want to shell out big bucks just so I can do diptychs.
Never mind, I got it figured out.
Thanks so much!
I’m curious about aperture. I’ve been considering it but didn’t want to make the plunge until I had heard from someone who had experience with it. Is it that much better than iPhoto, which has improved a great deal in the last year or so?
Aleta, I am very happy with Aperture. It’s the professional equivalent to iphoto so it’s better if you are shooting RAW images. I don’t think it would be necessary to make the switch if you are shooting in jpeg. But, it really just depends on your preferences. HTH!
(You can message me if you have more questions)
Thanks for the recommendation, Diane! I’ve wondered if there was something out there for those of us without access or funds to buy PSP or Photoshop.
Kate, for Photoshop-like editing, I use GIMP, a free photo editing software you can dowload online. There is a learning curve, but Google has been really helpful anytime I needed to know how to do something.
I think a section on this site for freeware alternatives in general would be a great idea!
I love photovisi, when you and Todd first told us about it in Ixtapa I went collage crazy on my blog!
Oh my street tacos! Are these shots from our last trip to Mexico and we snuck out on a taco run?
Jaden- YESSSS!!!!!!! that was such a fun taco run, can’t wait to do it again!
This is great! I make collages using Photoshop, but it always takes me a while. I’ll be trying this very soon!
Hi Rachael.
if you have set collages, 2 verticals wide, 2 horizontals wide, 3 verticals wide, etc. you can create a photoshop action to speed up your work. I’ve set ours up for Diane since she hates doing photoshop work and now she loves the actions. It’s kind long to describe in the comments, but there are lots of tutorials online. Soon we’ll post something here too. Photovisi rocks on it’s own, however. No Photoshop needed!
Todd
This is GREAT!!!! I’ve already created 3 collages!!! I can’t wait to learn a TON from this new site
Great site. I also use Picnick for my collages because you are able to add captions.
Corrin- thanks for sharing about Picnick, that sounds awesome that you can add captions!
Thanks Diane – this is pretty useful! I have had trouble creating collages before with photoshop elements… I’ll definitely try this at home.
I love this! I have always wanted to do collages. I never knew it was so easy. I can’t wait to try this.
Thanks for the useful tip!!
Perfect timing for this post. I was thinking about it the other day. I was using Picasa the other week and experimenting. Thanks for another link to experiment.
Wonderful, and thank you! I love the collage from my Project 365 pictures and was wondering how I could replicate it.
this sounds very useful
esp when time is an issue
this is a collage I did of some bacon: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vrog/2967998826/sizes/l/
I’m pleased with it
but it took forever to put together in photoshop
I’d love to see your bacon collage, but its set as private.
Googles free app Picasa also does a good collage job. I love doing collages, nd am off to check Photovis!
Deeba- Picasa seems like an overall winner too!
Aha! Just what I’ve been looking for – thank you!
That’s a great resource, Photoshop takes so long sometimes!
ps Happy St. Patty’s day!
Thanks for this! I was just sitting at the airport wondering how to deal with the hundreds of pics I took in New Orleans…. This is perfect!
A good food photo collage is such an impactful thing, it can tell a story in a way that words just can’t. Thanks so much for sharing this resource.
Argh!! I LOVE this site. I don’t even have photoshop on my home computer so this is definitely something awesome. I wish food blogging was my full time job so I could focus on getting awesome photos and making them look amazing! Thanks for the tip!
I used this on my most recent post: http://www.tokyoterrace.com/?p=2230
It was a great way to showcase a larger number of photos without making the post seem ridiculously overloaded.
Well, thanks for this…I think. I just spent an hour on Photovisi when I should be doing laundry and writing. Photoshop makes me kind of nuts and this is so easy.
that’s funny. my site is practically an endless food collage! heehee LOVE the effect
Wow, I’ve always how a collage was put together, thank you for sharing, will try it out.
Thanks for suggesting Photovisi. I’ve just tried it and it’s so fun! And much faster than doing it in Photoshop.
Bookmarked this site! Thanks for the great suggestion.
Thank you so much for sharing this tool with us. I know how to use Photoshp and Gimp enough to be dangerous but it feels like things take longer than they should. I know I should create templates for treatments like collages but don’t think about it until I need a specific treatment. Tools like this will help me make the most of my time. Please post others like these for our food photograpy toolkits!

I use Picnik and have done several collages – what they add in visual impact is so worth the time. Going to check out comiclife.com since my site has a comic book vibe ; ) Thanks Elaine McCardel! I’m loving this site and all the useful information and tips – looking forward to FBF in LA.
This is so helpful! Thank you so much for the tip and the site. Not only am I a Photoshop newbie, I can’t afford Photoshop just yet. So this would be a great alternative. THANKS!
Awesome!! I have been wondering how to do this.
Thanks for the links!!
I use Picnik as well! It’s interesting to see how many food bloggers out there are doing the same. It’s a great free service, very easy to use if you’re a photo editing novice like myself.
They do offer a premium service for $2 a month. Does anyone use it? Is it worth it?
I love this! I usually use Picnik.com I have the premium membership, so lots of options available but I like the look of photovisi – Thanks I can’t wait to try it!!
Jessica – I read your comment after posting my comment…….I’ve used Picnik premium for a year now and LOVE it!! it’s perfect, for me, for my blog photo’s. I’m still trying to learn my camera and photography, so learning PS or PSE right now was something I just don’t have as much time for….picnik allows me to do a lot, and try a lot with out really knowing a lot…..and over the year I’ve learned to do a lot more with picnik….I rarely just click and use an option, I always move sliders and use multiple options!! – the nice thing is, if you don’t like it – it’s easy to undo. So for me…YES I think picnik premium is worth it! I use it everyday!
Thanks for the input! I just might try it out. I already love the simplicity of Picnik–I imagine the $2 a month would go to good use.
Looks a lot simpler than putting one together in Photoshop, so as long as the image quality is high enough, this may just become a go-to tool for me
These are beautiful pictures! I can’t wait to grow my food blog and integrate all of these great tips from you experts!
I’m looking forward to trying this out. I usually use bighugelabs.com, but you cannot add captions on individual photos there.
Cool, thanks for sharing!
ahh this is great!!
Thanks for the tip! I am no good with Photoshop, so I use Picnik for my photo editing and even collages but Photovisi looks like something I need to try out!
Perfect! I saw this the other day just when I needed a tool like this to make the process a little faster. It worked great.
Thanks Diane! I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a while and couldn’t find the right tool.
Helpful site. Just used this to make a new title banner for my blog.
Thanks, great site it will definitely come in handy!
very cool!
can’t wait to try, have been using Picasa, but these collages look really great!
this makes me happy!
I love this! I’ve been wondering about a way to make collages, I will definitely give this a try! Thanks!
Wow, this would be way easier than the way I have been doing it! Thanks!
What a great tip, thanks! I love the look of photo collages, but don’t have photo shop. I’ve been using power point (haha!). I’ll have to give this a try.
Very cool! I wondered how everyone did this. Thanks!
Great tip – I was using a really backwards way to do this.
Thanks for this. I too was going about it the hard way.
I have been looking for an easy collage site for awhile. Thanks for the recommendation!
I used this tool yesterday. Love it! Thanks!
I’ve looked at some of the other collage sites and never had to time to figure out how to use them. But Photovisi is so easy to use! Thanks!
Thanks! I was just wondering how to do this and was going to post the question… and here it is!
